AUCHAN REDUCED PACKAGING DEVELOPMENT TIME BY 20% WITH TRACE ONE PACKAGING

Company

Created in 1961, Auchan is present today in 12 countries, and employs some 200,000 employees around the world. One of the giants of French retailing, Auchan still retains strong local roots and is the largest private sector employer in its French home region of Nord-Pas-de-Calais. Auchan reported consolidated pretax 2007 revenues of 36.7 billion euros.

Challenge

Packaging design represents one of the most complex activities of the modern brand-owning enterprise. But at Auchan, that complexity is performed upwards of a thousand times a year for a constantly renewed and constantly changing 3,500 private-label product references.

Solution

Trace One Packaging:

  • facilitated review and collaboration through a single document file, centralized and Web-accessible to all actors in the process
  • infinite reusability of any graphical or textual element, easily accessed through powerful search and archiving functions
  • global view of every step available to every actor
  • at-a-glance, automatic and highly visual comparison displays of deltas and modifications
  • highly configurable project workflow orientation, kicksing out automatic email notifications to designated project milestones
  • fully integrated with the Trace One Quality portal, already used for collaborative development of specifications
  • embedded web proofing to accelerate reviews and track modifications

RESULTS

Christophe Dierickx, head of Packaging for Auchan Production, comments on the qualitative gains: “Limiting the risk of errors, since each actor uses the same reference document – this way, we gain in mutual efficiency with the manufacturers we work with on a daily basis”.

But even more important is the quantitative benefit: “We estimate being able to gain 20% in package development time” he notes.
