Carrefour Spain chooses Trace One to further improve the safety of their private label food products
Februry 1, 2009 - Increasing their products’ safety and protecting their customers’ health is a priority for Carrefour Spain. In Madrid, Spain’s leading supermarket chain announced to over 300 suppliers that, in order to guarantee improved quality and safety of their private label products, they are progressively deploying an on-line solution which will guarantee full visibility of products and their ingredients, by means of technical data sheets.
“At Carrefour, we’re working to ensure that our products and their manufacturing processes respect quality standards which guarantee the protection of consumer health,” explains Mariano Rodríguez Moya, Quality and Sustainable Development Director at Carrefour Spain.
What is the Trace One solution?
The Trace One platform is a structured database storing all the data contained in product specifications (food as well as cosmetics, household and personal care products), ensuring that the product specifications meet legislative requirements and guaranteeing quality processes. The database is completed online by suppliers and can be consulted via Internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
“Trace One enables us to share information with our suppliers in a simple and flexible way. This solution is perfectly suited to our food safety policy, compiling all the available data on products and their production processes,” explains Mariano Rodríguez Moya.
Over 60 Spanish suppliers already use this tool to collaborate with French retailers. One such firm is the Murcian company AMC, which specializes in producing juices. AMC’s Technical Director, Oscar J. Esteban, states: “we can manage updates and revisions of product specifications, sales and contracts in real time, which improves the fluidity of communications and avoids document duplication. AMC expects that working with Spanish groups using an identical platform will generate huge synergies while standardizing the available technical data.”
Trace One bets on the Spanish market
The deal with Carrefour is Trace One’s first foray into the Spanish market. Trace One CEO, Jérôme Malavoy, explains that the company’s objective “is to create even greater value by bringing the majority of Spanish buying groups on board this project, just like in France, where some 1,200 manufacturers and major supermarkets (Carrefour, Auchan, Casino, Monoprix, Toupargel, etc.) use this collaborative platform, generating major synergies for the entire sector.”
Reflecting their commitment to quality and food safety on the Spanish market, Trace One were sponsors of both the sixth edition of the AECOC Congress on Food Safety and Nutrition (Congreso AECOC de Seguridad Alimentaría y Nutrición), and the CIES International Food Safety conference, held in Barcelona in early February.
Both events brought together many quality, marketing, R&D and legal department managers of leading food manufacturers and supermarkets to discuss the challenges of traceability, food safety and consumer health.
