What substances have been added to the Candidate List?

ECHA, on request of the European Commission or a Member State, may propose a substance to be identified as of very high concern (SVHC). If the substance is identified as such, it will be added to the Candidate List for its eventual inclusion in the authorisation list (REACH Annex XIV). The inclusion of a substance in the Candidate List creates law obligations for the companies producing, importing or using these substances as such, in preparations or in articles.

On January 17th 2022, four substances have been added to the Candidate List, some of which are used in lubricants, adhesives and cosmetics:

  • 6,6'-di-tert-butyl-2,2'-methylenedi-p-cresol (CAS 119-47-1, EC 204-327-1)
  • tris(2-methoxyethoxy)vinylsilane (CAS 1067-53-4, EC 213-934-0)
  • (±)-1,7,7-trimethyl-3-[(4-methylphenyl)methylene]bicyclo[2.2.1]heptan-2-one covering any of the individual isomers and/or combinations thereof (4-MBC)
  • S-(tricyclo(5.2.1.02,6)deca-3-en-8(or 9)-yl O-(isopropyl or isobutyl or 2-ethylhexyl) O-(isopropyl or isobutyl or 2-ethylhexyl) phosphorodithioate (CAS 255881-94-8, EC 401-850-9)
