Restrictions are a tool to protect human health and the environment from unacceptable risks posed by some chemicals. Restrictions, described in Annex XVII of Regulation 1907/2006 (REACH), may limit or ban the manufacture, placing on the market or use of a substance. Restrictions to which substances are potentially subjected have to be reported in Section 15 of the SDS.
Last July 17th 2023, the latest update to Annex XVII to REACH Regulation has been published in the form of Regulation 2023/1464.
Regulation 2023/1464 introduces Restriction 77, relating to the use of Formaldehyde (CAS 50-00-0; EC 200-001-8) and formaldehyde-releasing substances. These substances can be placed on the market after August 6th 2026 only if the released formaldehyde measured in accordance with the test conditions provided in the newly introduced Appendix 14 do not exceed the limits provided by the Regulation and measured in accordance with the test conditions provided in the newly introduced Appendix 14.
Furthermore, these substances cannot be placed on the market after August 6th 2027 in road vehicles unless the released formaldehyde do not exceed 0,062 mg/m3.
