Food Safety and Standard Authority of India Drafts Amendments Related to MRL of Pesticides

Proposed amendment regulations: Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, Toxins and Residues) Amendment Regulations.


The sub-regulation 2.3.1. in the  2011 Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, toxins and residues) Regulations refers to the restriction on the use of insecticides. Subject to the provisions of regulation 2.3.1(2), no insecticides shall be used directly on articles of food. The newly amended list contains 219 names of insecticides along with MRL in various food category.

Note- The Maximum Residue Limits/tolerance values are provisional for a period of five years and not fixed on the basis of actual data in the Indian context. They may be reviewed after five years or when the relevant scientific data is made available to Food Safety and Standard Authority of India, whichever is earlier.
