Industry expertise can be an important consideration when selecting PLM software, particularly for companies operating in specialized areas of food and beverage where business processes and requirements may differ from the broader industry.

Nick Duncan, Sr Manager, R&D Technology at Suntory Global Spirits, explains why industry experience and the potential for a strong partnership influenced the company’s decision to choose Trace One Devex PLM. Based on previous experience, the team wanted a technology partner that already understood how its business and the premium spirits industry operate.

Suntory Global Spirits had previously found itself repeatedly explaining its business and industry to its software vendor. When evaluating a new PLM solution, the company looked for a provider with relevant industry knowledge from the start. Trace One’s established presence and experience working with other premium spirits companies became important factors in the selection process.

In this video, Nick shares what Suntory Global Spirits was looking for in a new PLM provider and why Trace One’s experience in the premium spirits industry was instrumental in the company’s final decision.

“Some of the key challenges that we faced before implementing Trace One solutions were actually that our current system at the time was end of life.

We were given about a year's notice where we had to migrate from whatever our current solution was to something new and so the impetus to change was kind of forced upon us a little bit. It was back to the drawing board in a really aggressive implementation timeline to move off of an end of life system and into something new and something fresh.”
