US Publishes Guidelines on Label Approval

On March 11th, 2024, the USDA FSIS published scientific document on the “Guidelines on Label Approval”. The guidance is reissued based on the final rule “Voluntary Labeling of FSIS-Regulated Products with U.S. Origin Claims”.

The scope of the document includes the following:

  • To help establishments determine whether their labels must be submitted to FSIS’ Labeling and Program Delivery Staff (LPDS) for approval;
  • Establishments to comply with the new regulatory requirements under the final rule on the next uniform compliance date for new labeling regulations, January 1, 2026;
  • FSIS added the section “Product of USA,” “Made in the USA,” and Other Voluntary U.S.-Origin Claims” that explains the requirements for the voluntary U.S.-origin label claims;
  • The appendices provides a clear and concise details on the new and the existing changes;
  • The guideline is final and replaces the previous version dated January 2023.
