Managing raw materials, ingredients, and packaging is an important part of product development for food and beverage manufacturers. PLM software can provide a structured environment for managing this information while giving teams tools designed around the specific requirements of the industry.

Andy Jeffreys, Quality Systems Analyst at Continental Mills, identifies raw material management as the most useful Trace One Devex PLM capability for his organization, particularly when working with ingredients and packaging. He highlights Trace One’s food and beverage industry knowledge and its understanding of the challenges involved in managing raw material and packaging information.

Andy also points to usability as a distinctive aspect of Trace One Devex PLM. In his experience, users find the system intuitive compared with what they might typically expect from an enterprise application. He describes the interface as more similar to the consumer applications people are accustomed to using.

In this video, Andy discusses Continental Mills’ experience with Trace One Devex PLM, including why industry expertise influenced its PLM selection, how the solution supports raw material and packaging management, and why usability and a collaborative implementation experience stood out to the company.

“One reason we selected Selerant [now Trace One] to do our PLM implementation for us is that, one, they really know the food and beverage industry very well.

Another reason we selected Selerant to do our PLM integration was that, unlike a lot of other big firms, you really get a personal, face-to-face experience when you work with Selerant. You’re not working with another number or name on a huge list of project managers like you would with a big company. You really get to know your project managers, you get to know the developers working on your account and the sales representatives, and you really do feel like a team when you work with them.

The most useful Devex tool for our organization is the raw material management and working with ingredients and packaging in particular. Selerant really has a lot of know-how in the way that they’ve built their solution to address the problems of dealing with raw material and packaging.

I think the usability of Devex is something that’s very unique to it as an enterprise application. When you think enterprise application, you don’t think of a tool that’s intuitive or usable. But when you work with Devex as a tool, users tend to find that it’s very similar to the consumer-facing applications that they’re used to working with. So it’s not like other enterprise applications. It really is something special and easy to use.”
