On December 22, 2021, the U.S Federal register published a regulation by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on “Various Fragrance Components; Exemptions from the Requirement of a Tolerance”
The key points are summarized herein:
- The regulation establishes exemptions when used as inert ingredients in antimicrobial pesticide formulations for use on food contact surfaces;
- Applicable on food contact surface in public eating places, dairy processing equipment, food processing equipment and utensils with end-use concentration not to exceed 100 parts per million (ppm);
- The regulation eliminates the need to establish a maximum permissible level for residues of various fragrance components;
- Safety of infants and children is adequately protected based on Toxicological profile and dietary exposure;
