Trace One_USA-FDA-nutrition-facts-eOn July 26th, 2022, Brazil’s Ministry of Health National Health Surveillance Agency-Anvisa published the “Nutrition labeling: new rules come into force in 75 days”.

The major concerns are indicated below:

  • The Nutritional Information table will undergo significant changes for better readability of information;
  • Clear mandatory information on total and added sugars, energy, and nutrient value per 100 g or 100 ml of food;
  • Magnifying glass symbol is introduced to identify the high content of three nutrients: added sugars, saturated fats, and sodium and must appear on the front label;
  • Nutrition claims remain as voluntary information;
  • Regarding the criteria for the use of Claims, guidelines are proposed to avoid contradictions with the frontal nutritional labeling.

The new rules for food labeling will be effective on October 09th, 2022.
