On October 21 and 22, 2020, Health Canada has issued new regulatory updates related to food pesticides and food additives:
- Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has proposed Maximum Residue Limits for MCPA in Annual Canarygrass and for MCPA in Crops (subgroup 6C) under two different PMRL numbers of the regulation.
The evaluation of the technical grade MCPA applications indicated that the end-use products have value and the human health and environmental risks associated with the new uses are acceptable.
The established PMRL’s come into effect from October 21,2020.
- Food Directorate has approved “The Use of Cellulase from Trichoderma reesei QM9414 in Apricot, Peach and Pear Nectars, and Unstandardized Fruit and Vegetable Products” after reviewing the safety assessment of the food additive.
Allows the use of enzyme in “unstandardized fruit and vegetable products” includes fruit or vegetable purées and pomaces, as well as unstandardized fruit nectars (i.e., fruit nectars made from fruits other than apricot, peach, or pear).
The food enzyme is intended to be used at a level consistent with Good Manufacturing Practice.
The regulation comes into effect from October 22, 2020.
