FSANZ Proposes New Form of Vitamin D3 in Food

On April 22, 2021, Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has proposed an application on a new form of vitamin B3 in the Food Standards Code and calls for public opinion.

  • The scope of the application is to seek approval to use nicotinamide riboside chloride as a form of vitamin B3
  • Application for use in food for special medical purposes (FSMPs)
  • The Code refers to vitamin B3 compounds as niacin in FSMPs.
  • FSMPs partially or totally replace the daily diet and are recommended for use under medical supervision.
  • No safety concerns associated with the use of nicotinamide riboside chloride as a form of niacin in FSMPs

The draft is open for public comments until May 20, 2021.
