New Zealand Proposes to Amend the Food Notice on Maximum Residue Levels for Agricultural Compounds

PesticidesOn July 26, 2023, the New Zealand Food Safety Ministry of Primary Industries issued a food notice on the “Proposals to amend the New Zealand (Maximum Residue Levels for Agricultural Compounds)" per section 405 of the Food Act 2014.

The notice covers the following key points for consideration:

  • Good Agricultural Practices for the use of the compound in the target species or crop;
  • Schedule 1 of the notice amends residue definition for Carbendazim and Cyromazine, Fluralaner, etc.;
  • Schedules 2 and 3 comprise agricultural chemicals and veterinary medicines, respectively, to which no MRLs are applied;
  • The entries of amended MRLs proposed have been highlighted in bold;
  • The dietary exposure and toxicological data indicate the intake of the residues from the consumption of agricultural compounds is unlikely to pose a health risk to consumers.

The draft document is open for public consultation period until September 24, 2023.
