On September 27, 2019, the Food ad Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States will hold a public meeting to discuss the modernization of food standards of identity, that some stakeholders now consider as out of date.

In fact, the FDA means to collect inputs on horizontal changes that will facilitate manufacturers to use new technologies and novel foods to improve innovation of standardized foods without impacting the basic nature and essential characteristics.

The FDA intention is to mordenize food standards of identity in order to “(1) protect consumers against economic adulteration; (2) maintain the basic nature, essential characteristics and nutritional integrity of food; and (3) promote industry innovation and provide flexibility to encourage manufacturers to produce healthier foods.“
