UK Publishes Genetically Modified Food and Feed (Wales) Regulations 2022

Trace One_eu-amendment-on-organic-production-and-labelling-of-organic-productsOn April 27th, 2022, the Welsh Ministers in accordance with the EC regulation 1829/2003 published “The Genetically Modified Food and Feed (Authorisations) (Wales) Regulations 2022”.


The document highlights the following:

  • The regulation extends to England and Wales;
  • Authorizes the placing on the market of nine food and feed products containing, consisting of, or produced from genetically modified organisms;
  • Authorizations granted by these Regulations are valid for a period of ten years in accordance with Articles 7(4) and 19(4) of Regulation 1829/2003;
  • Paragraph 4 of each schedule specifies the method, for detection, including sampling, which has been validated for use in relation to the authorized products;
  • Relevant information on the authorization of the products will be entered in the register of genetically modified food and feed referred to Article 28(1) of Regulation 1829/2003;


The regulation is effective from May 20th, 2022.
