Canada Modifies the List of Permitted Coloring Agents to Extend the Use of Allura Red to Fruit Flavoured Beer

eu-proposes-import-tolerances-for-the-pesticide-deltamethrin (2)On December 12th, 2023, the Health Canada Food Directorate published a regulation on the modification of the list of permitted coloring agents to extend the “Use of Allura Red to Fruit Flavoured Beer”. 

The objectives of the scientific document are indicated as follows:
• Approves the use of Allura red in fruit flavoured Beer at a maximum use level of 10 p.p.m; 
• The coloring agent is already approved for use in unstandardized foods at 300 p.p.m;
• The legislation further amends the List of Permitted Coloring Agents;
• The assessment supports the safety of Allura red for its requested use and poses no health risks to consumers.

The regulation is effective from December 12, 2023.
