Korean SDS: what’s new?
On 6th August 2025 the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MoEL) issued the Notice No. 2025-50, updating the Standards for Classification, Labeling, and Material Safety Data Sheets of Chemical Substances
The MoEL Notice No. 2025-50 introduces some small changes to the Korean SDS, specifically in Section 15. The regulation updates the order of existing regulatory references and adds a new subheading:
- Industrial Safety and Health Act – unchanged
- Chemical Substances Control Act – revised
- Act on Registration and Evaluation of Chemical Substances – newly added
- Dangerous Material Safety Control Act – reordered (from c to d)
- Wastes Management Act – reordered (from d to e)
- Other domestic and international requirements – reordered (from e to f)
Within Section 15, the Chemical Substances Control Act now requires disclosure of newly classified hazardous chemicals. The former “Toxic Substances” category has been repelled and replaced with three new categories:
- Acutely hazardous substances to the human body
- Chronically hazardous substances to the human body
- Environmentally hazardous substances
Korean SDS: when?
The regulation will be effective from August 7th, 2025, however, the SDS may still be prepared according to the previous format until June 30th, 2026.
Trace One has planned a regulatory analysis regarding this topic and will keep you updated on it.
