Canada Enables the Use of Cellulase from  Trichoderma reesei in Brewers and Distillers’ mash

EU recall (11) (1)On October 11th, 2023, Health Canada’s Food Directorate issued a regulation on the use of “Cellulase from Trichoderma reesei in Brewers’ mash and Distillers’ mash". The regulation amends the list of permitted food enzymes.

The safety assessment highlights the following points:

  • Approval on the use of the enzyme cellulase from Trichoderma reesei RF11412;
  • Allowed for use in Brewer's mash and Distillers’ mash;
  • The maximum allowed limit of the enzymes is established as Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP);
  • The scientific analysis supports the safety of the use of the enzymes in the respective food products.

The regulation is effective from October 11th, 2023.
